The Study Volume for the tenth ICMI Study on The Role of the History of Mathematics in the Teaching and Learning of Mathematics has appeared in July 2000 and was on display at the 9th International Congress on Mathematical Education in Tokyo/Makuhari as well as at the quadrennial meeting of the International Study Group on the Relations between History and Pedagogy of Mathematics (HPM) held in Taipei, Taiwan, in August 2000, just after ICME-9. This volume is edited by the co-chairs of the International Program Committee for this Study, John Fauvel (Open University, UK) and Jan van Maanen (University of Groningen, Netherlands). It is published as volume 6 in the New ICMI Study Series (Kluwer) under the title History in Mathematics Education: The ICMI Study.
The editorial work on the volume resulting from the eleventh ICMI Study is now essentially completed so that the book is due to appear not too late during the year 2001. Edited by Derek Holton (University of Otago, New Zealand), chair of the IPC for this Study, this ICMI Study volume will appear as number 7 in the NISS series (Kluwer). The topic of this Study is The Teaching and Learning of Mathematics at University Level.
The eleventh Study on The Teaching and Learning of Mathematics at University Level resulted in a second outcome: a special issue of the International Journal of Mathematical Education in Science and Technology (iJMEST), volume 31, number 1, January-February 2000. This issue contains fifteen of the papers presented at the Study Conference held in Singapore in December 1998.
